Swancon is over. I had a good time and am still tired, so a more awesome post will follow later.

This isn't a conclusive convention report. There will be enough of those and I don't think I could do a thorough report, except to say that things seemed to run well and people were not too fraught. Many folk have congratulated the committee and this was well deserved. The guests, including Charles Stross and John Birmingham, were excellent value. I did not see anything of Gail Simone, the comics writer guest, so cannot comment there.

Swancon is held over Easter in Perth and this was the 38th convention and my 33rd. The site was the Ibis Styles, a small hotel in Northbridge, which is the party side of the railway line and also the heart of Perth's Asian community. So, lots and lots of restaurants :-)

I seemed to mostly wander from group to group and catch up with friends. I went to a few panels but less than I had intended, more from a disorganisation of mind than because I didn't want to! I wasn't well on Friday and had to go home, so missed a lot I had wanted to see then, and even on Saturday I don't think I was too compos. I did hear most of John Birmingham's GOH speech and that was classic. I missed the Masquerade because I had faded out by then, but did see a few of the costumes as they arrived at the foyer.

Not staying at the con didn't help with fatigue, but I didn't have a rat-sitter and am also saving $ to go to the States later this year.

I understand I confused some folks with the name change thing and hope that clears up. As I tried to explain a few times, the root reason is that I dislike the name Sue and have for a long time. It doesn't seem to fit me, to my perceptions, and I have years and years in my memory of my mother snapping it at me when I did something that displeased her or saying it in a cutesy way, which I can't stand. Since we are very different people and don't get on well, this would happen a fair bit. Perhaps a counsellor would have more to say about it and in clearer words.

I attended the Tin Ducks award because I was presenting one; the Long Fiction category, won by Adrian Bedford and Juliet Marillier in a tie. That is, they tied, Juliet wasn't wearing a tie. I was, though, my beloved steampunk tie which I almost forgot to put on until the last minute. As [personal profile] cheshirenoir remarked, we did indeed scrub up well!

As always, I'm sorry those few days are over but I couldn't have survived another one. I am absolutely rapt to get my 33rd Swancon badge and it is still on my waistcoat, to be worn to work later this week, where it will mystify the inhabitants.
