Welcome to the new arrivals reading my journal! I will try to be interesting. Welcome also to your new home at Dreamwidth!
Most of my entries until now have been protected, meaning they can't be read by anyone unless I give them access. I give access to people I know, so will most likely do so when we get to know one another. I also intend to leave more entries open, now that I am retired and I don't have to worry about my employers seeing what I write. I know it will be a shock, but sometimes I'm not exactly polite about my workplace and those who ran it :-)
Here are some details about me, here at the start of 2026.
I'm a science fiction fan living in Perth, Western Australia; a writer, reader, transman and a non-live in carer for my mother.
2025 was the first year of my life lived as a free man! I was made redundant from my court transcriber job, which was basically handed over to the company's "wonderful" voice to text program. I will not call it artificial intelligence; it is not intelligence of any kind.
"Free" man may not be entirely accurate. As my mum's carer, I need to look out for her interests and don't really get to move far from home, which is close to M's place. I'm doing some writing, plenty of reading, and now some volunteer work looking after the re-created bushland surrounding Lake Claremont/aka The Swamp, the backyard of my apartment building. Seems only fair, considering the mayhem I helped commit there, 50 years ago.
