Why I'm wearing a bandage
Mar. 19th, 2011 08:48 pmAmong the many duties of a rat-slave is the providing of medications to one's rats. Tonight I found my two elderly gents sound asleep, even when prodded gently. I got Oliver's dish of soy, spiked with antibiotic, placed it beside his nose. Nothing. Stuck finger in, waved in front of Oliver's nose. Eyes popped open, gnashers sank into finger! Rat was then hauled a few inches across floor before releasing finger. He then realised his dish of soy was there and forgot about the finger.
Lesson: They're never *that* asleep, even when elderly.
I did find this sort of funny, even when dripping blood on the way to the tap and the bandaids. I'd been trying to gently wake him up for some time and had been worried he was sick, beyond the respiratory ailment which had necessitated the medicine in the first place. Old rats spend a lot of time asleep.
