Dragons at night
Mar. 27th, 2011 12:26 pmFireworks last night, spitting, hissing little golden dragon-rockets sounding like a kettle having a fit, arcing up and over the yard. I suspect they were somewhat unofficial, appearing as they did at 20 to 11 at night from a backyard one away from my place.
They were the high point of a rather hot night with nothing going on. Didn't do Earth Hour. Things were dull enough without turning the computer off! I ironed seven shirts, that's how dull.
Today, maybe a visit to the Guildford Book Exchange just to get out, without having to walk in the heat a terrible lot. I've watered everybody and checked the rats, especially the two old gents for life signs. They sleep so soundly one does have to look carefully! As for plants, the beans are suffering badly, but I have hopes the one climbing the house will partly survive, at least the higher portions of it which don't seem to get the sun so much. The one intertwined with my potted Norfolk Pine may make it.
My television also seems to have died (Friday) or else it is the aerial. Not certain until they both get checked, but I'm assured roof aerials aren't usually twisted quite like that. I blame a branch falling on it or else fat ravens arguing about who gets to sit there. This has prompted me to access more stuff online, which is good, but the one thing I can't get is the ABC 7pm bulletin, which necessitates the fixing of the television, one way or another. There's a lot of material which is freezone to those with an iinet account, which is most useful.
I tend to adopt tech only when I have to. This began when I was obliged to switch typewriter to computer because editors wanted stories submitted on disc and later, as attachments to emails, which necessitated upgrading from the Apple 11. Next one was a basic $50 machine, built by a friend from stuff he had around the house. Now I have a computer which can actually play DVDs. The wonders continue. :-) Eventually, I guess I'll have to have a proper digital television...unless the ABC start showing their regular broadcast online, of course.
EDIT: The Channel 2 broadcast may not be online, but Channel 24 certainly is :-) No problem. Not that anyone told me; I think they like letting me rabbit on. So now the only stuff I don't have access to is the "fast food tv" I watch....hm, do I need the Tv?
