Cute Ratness
May. 21st, 2008 11:06 amI'm at the comp trying (a) to watch what I'm doing and (b) watch Luka circling the study, keeping me company and checking out everything. I believe he's channelling Nikita, the most un-ratlike rat I ever had. Nikita was afraid of nothing and in fact mapped out the house the first night he was here, with me following along behind as safeguard. He wasn't afraid of four large rats living in another cage and perpetrated a home invasion to check out the setting, with the occupants huffing indignantly around him but not knowing how to react to a rat who refused to face off or acknowledge them.
Now Luka (small, 9-month-old or so black hooded) is becoming just as adventurous and is often to be found perched on top of a fridge (not in use) although he has not yet figured out a means of descent. Even Zach never tried that. Zach (large black berkshire), only a month older, is becoming more of a couch potato these days, though he still likes to get on the floor and wander. Luka had a course of Baytril not so long ago which fixed him up nicely (for now). He's bouncing about as though he's on something else.
Both these boys are rescue rats, like most of mine seem to be. Zach was found in a wheelie-bin when he was about 4 months old and Luka's history is not known. I'm glad to provide them with whatever they want, except edible cables.
Does anyone else have cute rat stories? I know there are at least two rat-owning people on my flist :-) What have they done lately?
