White Cloud Mountain Minnows
Apr. 10th, 2008 12:13 pmI picked them up today; a bagful of tiny, energetic fish who will hopefully eat my mosquito wrigglers and co-exist with my tadpoles. Aquarium City, where I bought them, warned me that the tadpoles might try to hunt down the fish, which was contrary to what I'd been worried about :-) When told the size of the pond (about two thirds of a metre deep, metre and a half diameter), the shop person was reassured and said that would give them a decent chance. So I have ten minnows with 25-30 tadpoles, at the moment getting used to the pond water in their bag. Shop person said give 'em 20 minutes before releasing them into the pond.
Apart from that, it rained here this morning and I did a bit of writing before going to get the fish. Tomorrow it's back to the gulag to pay the bills.
UPDATE: I just freed the minnows, who were a bit cautious but didn't take long when they realised there was a way out of the bag. One nibbled curiously at a wriggler, then all ten disappeared into the depths, never to be seen again! Fish! Come back! Let me see you!
In the shop, I was also charmed by a pond of koi who swam up to greet anyone who came in. I wonder how difficult it would be to build a koi pond...
