RIP Percy 23.5.04 - 8.8.06

My white rat Percy, last of three brothers, died this evening about 10 to 7 from heart problems. His passing was peaceful. At the moment I am remembering him as an large and pushy infant rat of 4-5 weeks of age. He and his brothers were born here in this house.

I'd like to say fondly mourned by Henry, Jonas, Nathanial and Ash but I don't think the buggers have even noticed! Rats are like that. Live fast and enjoy your time.

I'll miss you, Percy, with your proximity-alarm eeking if anyone even suggested invading your personal space, picking you up or heaven forbid, administering medical treatment. I remember the vet assuring me that he hadn't actually done anything to you yet...

my condolences. he was a loud and squeaky rat who quite rightly suspected I was hiding a pointy thing about my person, at least some of the time.

Too right. Thanks for all the help with rat-jabbing. Percy would rather have kept the mites, I'm sure, rather than be jabbed with little needles, but it did help that he didn't need to go to the vet to be treated but could have them at home. Not that he saw it that way...

Very sorry to hear about the loss to your household. How are the younger ratties taking it?

And now I have a mental image of a red-lit "Scramble!" spaceship movie scene where the proximity alarm is an indignant rat squeal.

Hmm. Works kinda well, actually.

The younger rats haven't really noticed. They only saw him in the evenings and he wasn't exactly welcoming! Didn't attack or anything, just squeaked loudly if they came anywhere near him. Rats accept death. If there are cagemates, I always show them the body so that they won't wonder where So-and-so is. They will come over, sniff the deceased and then get on with life right away.

I hope you are feeling better now also.
