A Good Time Was Had
Apr. 25th, 2015 05:49 pmSo far this is a pretty good weekend. Right now I am somewhat fuzzy...okay, hung over...but that's to be expected. Not to say it's typical, but I went to an excellent party on Friday night and am still pleasantly humming along.
I don't often feel this positive; not meaning to be negative, but it's the truth. When I went to my workmate's housewarming, I told myself I would stay for a couple of hours and then head home. I wanted to get a look at the apartment he's moved into, which is central city, and kick back for a bit. That was 6 pm, when I finished work about three minutes walk away! The apartment is in a really nice complex on Hay Street; very attractive building, very secure. A few workmates and some of Luke's ex-school friends were already settled.
The apartment is pretty well a postage stamp, which I was expecting from reading real estate stuff and looking at pictures of places to rent online. Quite new, I would say, with the latest appliances and designed well enough that it did not look cramped, but it would be a mistake to pack it with a lot of furniture. It consisted of bedroom, ensuite and kitchen/living room. When you come in, you walk through the kitchen to the rest of it. From the balcony we could see the pool and the rest of the complex rising around it. Since we were making a fair bit of noise ourselves, it was hard to tell, but I'm assured the soundproofing is good.
I wasn't expecting to stay for over four hours and really enjoy meeting the friends and hearing their stories, the sort people tell when they have had a few and have known each other for some years. Perth being what it is, I discovered a friend of a friend among the guests and we promptly formalised this on Facebook. Hallo Enna Rose! I feel now that I have made some real friends and damn it, that feels good.
I may have had a bit of Baileys Irish Cream along the way leading to my slight impairment today, but enjoyed it immensely, which was certainly the plan. It was very good to be able to talk to some of the people I work with, since proper conversations at work just don't happen unless the computers break down and we can't work. Something to do with wearing headsets and having to listen to the immortal words of the judiciary all day.
I got to bed around midnight after belatedly feeding my extremely unimpressed rats and probably asleep by 1 am so yes, I did miss the Anzac dawn service and also most of the local one held at the new war memorial site in Bassendean; crossing the road with my bike to the strains of the national anthem and a large crowd assembled. There's a particular feel about an urban area having a holiday, even though it's the weekend anyway, a definite sense of relaxation despite the fact that there were more people moving around than usual.
Pity the shops weren't open, though, I did need supplies and hadn't eaten properly since the afternoon yesterday. I got some food at the one local cafe which was open and doing probably the best business it's done for months. [Other places may have been open but I stopped at the first one I found!] I hope they are now getting some rest and counting their cash. After getting that far, I felt like some more rest myself so went home to get some, resolving to grocery shop tomorrow.
