Heading for Swancon
Mar. 24th, 2013 05:02 pmI've got two days to work this week and then I'm on a week's break. Swancon (Perth annual sf convention) will be on and I've made sure of a couple of days either side to rest up!
I decided to have my phone shut down today so that my mother would not bother me. This doesn't stop the issues circling in my head, of course. I went out with a friend and found that her hassles were in fact worse than mine, so I did more listening than ranting. She's possibly been bullied out of her job by nasty people making the situation unbearable. To me it looks as though she has a case but I've strongly suggested she talk to a lawyer expert in that area.
The gulag is okay, just been so busy that everyone is kind of tense. Supervisor is on leave right now, so that leaves the manager wrangling us :-) Might actually be more peaceful so long as the systems don't crash. I know, I know, don't give them ideas. We were asked not to tell the new people horror stories. One of them asked me whether my 20 years service "felt like 20 years." "Oh yes," I answered darkly, before realising that might count as a horror story. Seriously, what is it supposed to feel like?
I'd planned a number of things for the con such as costume items from a steampunk emporium and possibly purple hair, but haven't ended up doing any of that. Just getting there will be triumph enough.
The rats are well and I have organised their holiday trip for when I take mine :-) They'll be staying with a fellow rat fan, enjoying catered food and activities, but I bet they won't remember to send me a postcard.
