Gardy loo!

Got another call from Robert's creditors this morning. I've decided he must owe them money; they're so persistent. At least THIS time I got to my phone before they hung up and was able to point out in no uncertain (if bleary) tones that there was no Robert here. Last few times I've heard the voice asking for him but then they hung up before I could explain!

I've done some writing. Figured out that what I thought was a completely separate piece was in fact part of the novel. Ok, so this "novel" is at the moment not much over 15,000 words but we're on it. I'm now wondering will it work to have some in first person and some in third? There's stuff that my main character doesn't get to see, which I want to cover, but I'm more comfortable writing him in first person. If anybody would like to see a very rough draft and give me an opinion, let me know. For those who've read some of my Nightsider stuff, this is the story of the Evacuation of Perth, which will happen in an alternate 20-odd years time.

Today, I've done some watering of the tomatoes and broad beans and cleaned the bathroom, whereupon I found that the toilet was backing up. I won't describe what it looked like; I'm sure people have seen one. About ten flushes later, it's clean, but my landlord's coming around to have a look from the other end. I don't know where things are to do that myself, but will be his apprentice this afternoon. Maybe a mouse is stuck in the pipe. They get everywhere else in the house and I know the locations of at least two of their "secret passages."

Fred seems to be responding to the Zithromax antibiotic. He was out of bed and hungry this morning. Nothing from Griffin yet. Griff is resistant to a long list of stuff and this one really is the last chance, so I hope it works on him. Rats can be so difficult to treat due to size. Some of the most basic medical treatments like drips and blood donations can't be used and respiratory complaints are widespread among all pet rats, far as I've been able to tell. It's made me wonder whether Cedric, 38 months and counting, really does have some wild heritage. He's wild-coloured - agouti - and is the last survivor of a huge population of hoarded rats (info for new readers of this blog), so the possibility is certainly there. If he does, it could explain why he has shown very few of the normal symptoms of pet rats. To survive as long as this is quite unusual.
