I have returned
Oct. 2nd, 2012 09:15 pmThis is really a placeholder blog entry. I got home from Canberra last night and have been rather fatigued today, but this will pass. I've attended Conflux, a small literary sf con, for those who don't know it, and been to the spring flower festival, Floriade, and the War Memorial museum. There will be more when details have percolated through my brain.
One note before I forget it, re a chat I had with a gent of 80 while waiting for my plane. I was nearly late for boarding call because we were yakking. I expressed how attractive I thought Canberra was and he was not nearly so keen on it. He was there for a veterans reunion of some sort and said that this was perhaps because I was from Perth, which he described as "a traditional English town" and he thought Canberra was similar, "formal and sombre" whereas Townsville, where he was from, was different. Exactly how it was different, I never got to find out because, hey, had to go get on aircraft. That was one of the few occasions where I've actually wished a plane would be late. :-)
The rats are as I left them, though Rolf's hind end degeneration is getting worse and his circulation is affected. He's been well cared for and there isn't much more I can do to help now I'm back. Everyone seemed pleased to see me, though not so pleased that I cleaned the cages and gave them a wipedown, plus removing all the newspaper they'd stacked up.
