Spring has sprung......squelch!
Sep. 1st, 2012 04:43 pmMy garden says it's been spring for awhile. You know, weeds, flowers, caterpillars, snails, hay fever. I just decaterpillared my broad beans for the nth time. They're all flowering so hopefully they'll survive to bean. And this year the broccoli have made it. Last year the snails etc were so voracious that they ate all the seedlings.
This Saturday is a lot quieter than last week when I went to the Freo protest against the supertrawler Margiris, which has now shown up in Port Lincoln instead. Some cleaning up, laundry, the aforementioned gardening. I guess that's all right. Some things planned for this month, notably the Conflux trip on the 27th. My long service leave begins on the 21st. There's a minicon at KSP House which I'm considering attending on the 9th if I can work out travel. Must check how far it is from Midland Station. Quite honestly, I've been leaving that to see how I feel closer to the event. Depression levels seem to go up and down, work's been stressful and I have Conflux to mentally prepare for.
Two girl rats arrive here for boarding next week. I've warned their owner about the testosterone-filled ratty household here and she still wants to take the chance, so we'll see. The boys aren't likely to do much; it's the females who take the initiative among rat-kind, so the girls' cage had better be secure!
Good friends
stephen_dedman and
manic_pixie are moving in down the road rsn and I'm looking forward to that. It must be an intense relief to have the house hunt at an end.
The number of mice being caught in my traps, both the humane traps and then the zap trap I borrowed because the mice were swarming, eventually crashed. None being caught for several weeks. I returned the zap trap and concluded that I have now done my bit to breed a better mouse. There's one old mouse still occupying my house. It will not go near either kind of trap. After the return of the zap trap, I tried baiting the humane trap with peanut butter, aka mouse crack. Nothing. Marmalade. Nope. A piece of my own Crunchie Bar. Nada. However, I have managed to catch some mice. Six baby mice in rapid succession, who have now moved on to a career in the great outdoors. Well, one actually died in the trap, not hurt that I could tell, so I'm assuming shock. The mouse with it was fine; I shook it free over the fence. But the old mouse which is no doubt responsible for this fine litter of mouselings won't come to any lure. Like I said; a better mouse.
