Last Day of Break
Jul. 31st, 2011 12:02 pmI swear, it never gets easier. I used to feel this way on the last day of school holidays. It's windy and fairly damp also, so I don't feel much like doing outside stuff. I just did a tour of the garden to check on the susceptible plants and found the ruins of one of the young broccoli plants, that had been doing really well before some many-legged scum bit through the stems of the leaves. Didn't *eat* the leaves, mind, just broke them off and left them lying there. I also de-caterpillared one of the young broad bean plants which had undergone a severe chomping, but will probably survive if it gets a break over the next couple of days. I use snail pellets but the caterpillars just stroll past them.
The rats are in bed for the day. Edwin, my old gent, has had his dish of soy and I saw him eating some of the dry mix, so that's good. Griffin, the new rat, is not yet allowed into the cubby house with everyone else. He got a two-second thumping from Rolf this morning; Rolf jumped down to where Griffin was, screamed and leapt, then jumped back up to the hammock and dived for cover before Griffin had time to do more than eek, "WTF?" This, believe it or not, is pretty mild treatment for an adult newcomer. It took me months to get Claude to this stage, not days as it's been with Griffin.
What else? I'm out of stuff to read again, unless I find something online. I feel I shouldn't be wasting this time, but there isn't honestly much to do. Sundays are usually like that. I'm even going to go and do some washing up instead of leaving it till tonight.
