UPDATE: The library was a bust; group of women and some incredibly loud screaming children got rid of me before I'd found anything. Grrr. I did get a copy of Robert Sawyer's Watch from [profile] fantastic_planet, which was on my list and resisted the temptation to get Jean Auel's latest. There's so many copies around that I expect the price to go down and anyway, it's been so long waiting that I'm no longer that excited about it. I think for the first time, Ayla's not going somewhere. She's stuck in Cromagnon suburbia with her husband and kid.

I've also ordered a copy of Mira Grant's Deadline, the second book from the thinking person's zombie apocalypse series. I noticed that Cassandra Clare's latest, The City of Fallen Angels is out, but trade paperback, quite expensive, so again I'll wait. I feel quite proud of my own restraint. There's always tomorrow or next week.

While at the shop, I also had a chance to chat to [personal profile] stephen_dedman and Shasta - don't know if you're on LJ, Shasta - who told me she'd been 50 km away from the reactor blast in Japan. Yes, indeed. *Thinks of S.M. Stirling's definition of "adventure" which is, "Someone else in deep shit, a long way away!"* Good to see she made it back safely.

---------------------------------------------

There is nothing to read here! 8-900 books in the house and absolutely nothing to read. Well, except War and Peace which I "inherited" from M some 20 years ago and haven't read yet. Tried but haven't got past the first chapter.

I am going to town to visit the library and maybe some bookshops, though the part-time work thing DOES mean I have to be careful. Sigh. Just had to buy antibiotics for the rats and pills for me - does this mean no books for the month? Moving from casual to permanent late last year has hurt, financially, at least in the short term. I didn't have much choice in the move, it was jump or be pushed and I admit paid holidays are good, but it's less in the pay packet at the end of the fortnight.

I've done some rereads - all the Temeraires and the Morganville Vampires - but all the enticing new books out there are calling me.
