Feels like Summer
Sep. 13th, 2009 02:43 pmIt feels like summer! We're easily pleased here in Perth after several weeks of greyness, rain and wind. T-shirt weather. I'm also in a good mood because I visited a nearby garage sale and found there a pair of new sneakers (said to be part of a two-for-one deal and never worn). They certainly looked like that was the case. Black, which I'd been thinking of getting, and my size! My current sneakers, or one of them, have separated along the sole and can no longer be termed "watertight." Very good price, and I talked 'em down another five dollars. Despite the general Aussie inexperience with bargaining, everyone does it at garage sales. I suspect they set prices higher than they expect to get, because the other people there bargained down as well.
So that's good.
I went to Eurogames yesterday and played three games, beaten at two out of three, but that's okay. I'm still learning the games. Hadn't played Army of Frogs before and Dominion and Ticket to Ride only once before. There was no way I was catching up with
leecetheartist's locomotive. Army of Frogs reminded me a little of chess and though I haven't played chess for a long time, I found I could still get into the mindset and think ahead to find the best moves. Chess is time travel in your head.
I'm minding a rabbit at the moment,
manicpixie's little white angora bunny Percy, who is settling in quite well and absolutely fascinates the rats. Claude went into the spare room where I had installed Percy, unbenownst to me, but I found out when Percy hopped past the open doorway with Claude following. Percy seemed rather indignant that something so small was following him into his carry cage and pushing about behind him. I'm hoping they'll make friends, since Claude does not play well with others, read, other male rats.
Well, got to go do some weeding etc while the weather holds. Time for the last of the broccolini to come out so I can ready that patch for corn, beans and rockmelons. I'm being optimistic about that last; didn't get any last year but I'm hoping to do better this time.
