Nov. 8th, 2006 11:02 amMy computer crashed finally on Sunday, after giving me barely enough time to update my backups. Thanks
muffinmonster for the reminder to do this :-) Then on Monday I took it to the neighbouring computer shop for a brain transplant but discovered it was actually too old (6 years) for this to be usefully done, so I decided I would have to upgrade.
I generally regard this with about as much enthusiasm as going to the dentist but the Computer Shop People were sympathetic fannish types who used language a luddite writer could understand :-) [During the computer discussion we also compared the two Battlestar Galacticas and whether Starbuck should have changed sex. I knew I was in the right place!]
So I now have a new (well, secondhand computer) XP instead of 98 and am busy loading the contents of all those floppies back on to comp. My screen is 17 inch instead of 14 and I am very happy with this. The comp is also *black* which goes beautifully with my black desk :-)
Unfortunately the one thing I didn't get around to doing was printing out my address book with everyone's emails because my printer was playing silly buggers and claiming there was no paper. Look! It's there, you &*^%$ machine! I meant to go back and do it later when printer was in a better mood but later evaporated. So if people who usually email me could do it, that would be good as I need to collect you all again.
