Meeting Robert Silverberg

This was one of my Worldcon highlights :-) Go to the lj of [livejournal.com profile] satyapriya and behold the evidence; both of us in the same hallway as Robert Silverberg!

In the past, this Grand Master of Science Fiction has also demonstrated the powerful effect of the Stupidity Field which surrounds him. It does not of course affect Mr Silverberg but many other fans and writers who find themselves unable to behave sensibly or even coherently in his presence.

[livejournal.com profile] satyapriya and myself were introduced by [livejournal.com profile] mothrababe whom we have now decided is a natural nullifier of the stupidity field and must thus accompany us anywhere we are likely to meet Mr Silverberg.

Perhaps [profile] mothrababe could also accompany me anywhere I am likely to run into New Yorker writer David Raboff. Last weekend, I found myself unable to read my own wristwatch, operate my mobile phone, or even hold a pen correctly. He asked me the time - I couldn't tell him, just struck dumb. He asked me how to get messages off a mobile phone(same model as me) - I found I didn't know, even though I've been getting text messages for a long time now. And then I launched my pen into his lap - not once, but twice.
And until I did the workshop, I'd never been a fan of his, or even heard of him.
Do you think it's now all famous American authors, because if so, I'm in deep poo if I get to another Worldcon.

Ah, another sufferer of face blindness or prosopagnosia, sounds like. Out of context is a real problem!

Ah, not as bad as I feared.

I can quite literally walk past someone I know quite well because I don't register them.
Then I can quite well not know their name as well.
