Obligatory Rat Cuteness
...because my gut hurts and brain won't work and this is the best I can manage.
Other night: Luka hops on to my lap, chunk of bread clutched in his hands, either because he feels sociable or thinks it's safer here.
Moment later: Zach gallops past, spots Luka and - without pausing - seizes chunk of bread from him (though their dinner bowl has more of them) then careens onwards.
Luka looks at his empty hands...
It always tastes better when you snatch it from somebody else.

Frankly I'm relieved as my high school memories are not among my happiest...
I had to laugh at your bio as I'm surrounded by nibbled books, nibbled flyscreen door, nibbled carpet, power leads patched up with (nibbled) duct tape... :P

About rat chewing: One of my most used phrases to them is, "Don't eat the books!" And I've twice had to confess to Telstra that my phone cable has been "chewed by rats" and I needed a new phone. I sort of didn't mention that they'd been my rats...
How many rats do you have? I've got just the two boys at the moment.

So, anyway, I didn't see that particular story, but yeah I've heard about the issue & it makes me relieved that when I was in high school only a small bunch of nerds (including me) could be bothered learning about computers, and if we were lucky our computing teacher would show us some BBS for a few minutes...
With books, I try to imagine that the paperbacks with their spine bindings chewed off are now somehow mysterious & intriguing, on account of not being able to tell which book they actually are anymore ;-)
I only have 1 (huge) boy at the moment... he is nearly 2, unfortunately his brother had a stroke in January. I have been a bit worried he might be lonely but being set in his ways I think trying to introduce new rats would be difficult...
