The Year of the Rat

We made it! We're here :-) Saw in the New Year, mostly because some neighbours in the next street did and I had to wait for them to stop. Resolutions? Same as always, I guess. Try to get published, be more careful with money, not get too depressed and not to angst about other people's expectations of me. [Mother: I was trying to RING you and you WEREN'T ANSWERING. I've been ALL ON MY OWN!]

Defying the vet's expectations, Joshua-the Boss-Rat is still with me and reasonably alert thanks to several pricey medications. You're lucky you're cute, Joshua! Nat-the-Senior-Rat is also present, perhaps surprising both of us. He has now lived in four years which is damn good for a rat. Then there's young Zach who is still surprised at the change in the weather, six months after he was born.

I'm heading for Worldcon in Denver this year. I also intend to study something, whether officially or not. Thinking of trying to learn more Latin. I seem to be the office expert, mostly on the basis of remembering various phrases of court Latin without recalling what they actually mean. Some I remember, others I can just rattle off as though they came from the Dirty Hungarian Phrase Book.

It's going to be another hot day. So are the next two or three days. How's life at your end of the street, [livejournal.com profile] agoodliedown? Are you finally managing to have one? Lob around any time. We'll be here :-)

I'm rereading Philip Pullman. I saw The Golden Compass yesterdy and though it was beautiful, it was also a bit of a disappointment especially with the ending. I hope they plan to make the other books into movies.
