The Meme Wars
Greetings. I'm still here. Still not sure for how long but hey, at the moment this is my only way to catch up with people. Fell over after a really tiring day at work yesterday. It is now midmorning on Good Friday and you can hear the snores around the city of Perth here on the edge of the Known World. I think whoever wanted to get out for the Easter weekend has done it and left the rest of us in peace.
All I'm up to is a bit of writing, hopefully, got an idea at work yesterday which I want to chase, and a bit of gardening/watering. The winter crop - broccoli, snow peas, broad beans and tomatoes - are planted and so far remain uneaten. I think the rattus in my compost bin got tired of having the lid removed and organic rubbish dropped on her head; anyway, no signs of her presence in recent days.
For want of anything more useful to say, I have enlisted for the Meme Wars.

1. I'll respond with something random I like about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I'll name something we should do together.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me (or just me).
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll leave you a quote that is somehow appropriate to you.
or, I will include an icon just for YOU in my reply)
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal so you can do the
same for other people. Ok, must is a little strong. But it would only be fair.
I should note I don’t actually know the correct method of copying a meme from someone else’s entry to put into my journal so I’ve just saved it to Documents and tidied it up for re-posting. Wouldn't mind if somebody told me how it was meant to be done!
Ratfan [trying to behave and not rant!]

I have no idea how it's meant to be done, unless there's a link for it. In this case, I just highlight and copy the text, then pasted into mine.
I'd also rather you didn't leave LJ - rants are fine, and LJ is about the only way I have of keeping up with you and yours.

1. I'll respond with something random I like about you.
The way you bail people out when they're in trouble (like entire convention committees!)
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
The Crow!
3. I'll name something we should do together.
Yeah, catch up would probably be it...
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me (or just me).
She's only two. It's not *that* kind of party.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
When you came along to our first commitee meeting/face-feeding-in-Chinese-restaurant. I *think* that was when I first realised you were a fellow rat person!
6. I'll leave you a quote that is somehow appropriate to you.
"Don't eat the green wobbly bit."
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
Hm. Can't exactly say I've always wondered What are your favourite authors/subgenres in sf?

On the Sci-Fi side, I enjoy authors such as Neal Stephenson and Vernor Vinge.
On the Fantasy side, I enjoy authors such as Kathryn Kerr and Lynn Flewelling.
I enjoy a bit of horror too - Stephen King and Brian Lumley spring to mind.

1. Your friendliness to me and others.
2. Legally Blonde!
3. Watch a movie starring Vin Diesel!
4. ”Cute kid!” :-)
5. Watching you get all excited at your first Swancon because you’d never realised there were events and people like this in the world. I think that was at the closing ceremony and you’d already got yourself signed up to help with the next con.
6. ”If you send somebody out to save the world, make sure they like it how it is now.” [XXX]
7. How did you and John get together and decide this was it?

I think that I had an idea, when we spent an entire weekend together (our first date, really, went for three or four days) and then we go home and I immediately missed him, and found out he missed me already too. So I went straight back to his place.
=-)
And I guess, never left.

2. Cabaret.
3. Another panel on a great horror trope.
4. Boy scout.
5. On the bus en route to the Sf film festival at WAIT. Damnation Alley was showing, and you were wearing a 'Save the Cockroach' badge.
6. "I haven't had so much fun since the rats ate my baby sister." - Robert Bloch.
7. How much time do you spend on research?

1. I'll respond with something random I like about you.
The way you pay attention to what I am saying and always know what I mean (as the people at work *never* do). You even have it footnoted before I've finished :-)
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
Westside Story.
3. I'll name something we should do together.
Go out for dinner with a bunch of writers.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me (or just me).
"Sorry, did I startle you?"
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
Outside Swancon 6, clad in a cloak and throwing dice while saying, "If it t'were done, best t'were done quickly!" My intro to fandom, right after the "cockroach" encounter :-)
6. I'll leave you a quote that is somehow appropriate to you.
"I have nothing to declare but my genius." Oscar Wilde. (and yes, I know you knew that!)
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
I'll throw back your question - how much time do you spend on research?

Carry on at a convention!
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me (or just me).
"Green! Purple! Green! Purple!"
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
Walking towards me in Frankfurt Airport's McDonalds, faintly glowing in that green and purple T-shirt. Of course, I hadn't been asleep all night...!

"The Corps is Mother, the Corps is Father
We are the children of the Corps."
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
