Geocaching or ingress?

I just read a post about ingress and the point was made that it was a more fun way to get exercise than a pedometer. Possibly so, but my phone can't handle that much excitement. I'm pondering upgrading said phone.... I've also thought about geocaching but again, that would require an upgrade of equipment. Opinions?

Don't know that it would help my nonexistent social life but it couldn't hurt....

Also I'm still feeling kind of down and messages would help.

If you do get into Ingress, please have more situational awareness than most players and don't get mugged.

I always intend not to get mugged! I take it this is my message of encouragement? :-)

I think it's worth a look if you like the sound of it. Xperias are pretty good, I used to have one (Ros is using it still) or HTC Rob says are good. I had two before I got the Nexus (which also is you beaut but definitely expensive) Dick Smith shops in the suburbs may not be picked over for phones yet.

Yeah, the vultures have certainly descended on the stricken wildebeest that is Dick Smiths. That's why I decided to pick up the modem router against future need, considering DS still had a few needing homes...I guess I'll upgrade eventually, game or not, so thanks for the recs.

I have not been mugged yet while playing.

Sorry you are feeling down. *hugs*

It's a little beyond me how it needs to be so complicated to go for a walk. I mean, why not go outside, enjoy the fresh air and the good/bad weather, taking a nice one-hour walk and just... be in it, and not add all sorts of tech to it? Plus, I'd never let my employers have that kind of insight in what I do outside the hours they pay me for my work. My work, not my life.

As for phone-upgrade, well. My mid-range Sony could sure take it all, but I won't let it. MUAHAHAHAHA. But it's good to know it could if I wanted it.

Problem is that now I started reading more on Ingress and it sounds... fun. :D Bugger. Damn you for this. Maybe Sony needs to see if she can handle the load. Damn, damn, damn.

Don't blame me :-) I might not even do it - money is a bit tight - and as you say, if the walking is enough in itself, why bother? And I agree with you about the commissars (what I call Head Office) and their health-organising activities; but since they gave me the pedometer, I think it will be useful to help me increase my activity and I don't need to tell 'em a thing. I'm sure not going in their workplace activities, whatever they have planned.

I sure won't. And good thinking re: work - you'll never know when stored info like that will come back and hit you when you don't need it.

(And if you decide to upgrade, I can recommend the Sony Xperia M2 - it's cheap and relatively powerful compared to most mid-ranges, and it has a kick ass battery life, compared to just about any phone, even high-end ones. Since it's last year's model, you can probably pick it up cheap, or even used, for very little.)

One of my other LJ friends plays Ingress. He has a great time. It's not really my cup of tea, but I completely get the attraction. Moreso than geocaching because you usually don't ever see other geocachers.

Sorry to hear you've been feeling low. Hope you get to recharge a bit with the holiday Monday.
