cancelled for lack of interest but had to do it anyway

Still sick as the proverbial canine for non-infectious reasons, but did the grocery drop to M's and the couple of other jobs. This is six weeks since M bit the carpet at a yacht club and needed a hip pinned.

If anyone else out there has an aged parent who did this and can give me an idea of recovery times, let me know. M was particularly difficult with the moaning today. I know it's a frustrating situation but wasn't feeling particularly joyous myself. Also M does not listen to anything I suggest - like going back to the doctor - so saying anything feels futile.

I was annoyed by person at Coles wishing me a happy Mother's Day. Grinch-like it may be, but I resent being sidelined once again as a non-procreator/non traditional gender role person. Now back home and trying to resist the urge to go horizontal, because if I do it now I might have another night like last, where I couldn't sleep until after 4 am.

I totally avoided anything outside the home today, for that same reason. And I limited my online stuff a bit, too. And not a single person wished me anything they shouldn't've, which was a pleasant change. Still, it'd be nice to be majority one day, for a bit.

It definitely would. I didn't have a choice about the going in public for reasons indicated, otherwise I would have stayed put also!

Yep. And I suspect your mother will be needy for a bit, even when the hip is fine, so I'm afraid you're kinda stuck. My mother's quite the opposite. She doesn't want anything for any fuss, so I rang her and gave her a virtual breakfast in bed (because she totally hates the actual thing) and then she went off to guide at the museum.

Wonder if someone staring in shock at them, saying "How could you!!?" and bursting into tears would make them less likely to make such banal and annoying statements.

Does Silver Chain come around to see your mum?

I hate International Day to Make Childless Women Not By Choice Feel Bad About Themselves.

My mom had a hip replacement a few years back -- she seemed to do pretty well with it, but started physical therapy rather quickly. She's a former R.N., so takes that sort of thing seriously.

Re Mother's Day . . . nobody wished me one, so I'm guessing I radiate non-Mom. Have considered establishing Freemartin Day (see Brave New World) for the rest of us.
