San Antonio: The Lone Star Worldcon

Robert Silverberg will be at Worldcon; I have reminded myself to be careful, but the Silverberg Stupidity Field will no doubt be in operation and I'm not answerable should I find myself within the perimeter. This is of course no reflection on Mr Silverberg's intellect; only the proven fact that people do stupid things around him. I myself have knocked a wheelchair, with occupant, into the side of a lift while Robert Silverberg stood nearby. Occupant not hurt.

I leave next Tuesday to spend just over two weeks in the United States. Everything is pretty well organised. The rat tribe are being cared for in situ and will probably let me know all about the neglect [not allowed out all evening and no Second Supper] when I return.

Skipping some of the election hype is a bonus. I'm not pleased with much either major party is doing. They also aim most promises and declarations at "families" which is an instant turnoff for me. It's as though the entire population consists of male/female couples with kids. Single folk not of interest. So I'll vote before I go and check in sometime on the 8th to see how things are going. Maybe.

Anyone who reads this blog semi-regularly will know that my workplace has been extremely busy with its new contracts and still is. I'm tired in a built-up-over-months-with-no-leave-approved way. One of the things I'm looking forward to is staying in a fancy convention hotel, with no malfunctioning elevator that kept me awake far more than I planned to be.[Denvention '08] That, the Dealers Room, Tex-Mex cuisine and catching up with friends. Maybe I can kickstart the writerly part of my brain as well.

I hope it's a really good break for you.

Thanks. I definitely need one! I should add while I think of it; single *parents* don't get much of a look-in from politicians either. It will be so good to get away from all this for awhile! It's been five years since I went anywhere for more than a few days.

We survived the Silverberg encounter in 2008. Oh, and ouch!

I did actually edit my post. That elevator was probably the worst thing, since it made me so tired I was unable to do very much at all towards the end. To those who don't know; the malfunction took the form of the lift parking itself on our floor (it was outside the door) and continually dinging its bell, though nobody was in it or trying to use it. Nobody seemed able to do anything about the damn thing and the hotels were so full I could not get a change of room.
