Is it too hot for tea?

Christmas Eve, getting late. I spent some hours asleep today, still experiencing effects of a cold, so not that tired yet and contemplating a last cup of tea. Temperature is still around 26^C and it won't get much cooler. We're set for a run of 39-40^C temperatures [102-104^F] so probably the only outside activity I'll get for awhile is watering garden early on and hopefully going to see The Hobbit on Thursday. If I can stop coughing, that is.

[Insert here standard complaint about Christmas saturation of television, meaning nothing to watch.]

Last week I went to Mandurah to visit friends Rob and Leece on the last leg of their long-service leave trip around the southwest coast. It feels amazing to be able to get on a train and go right out of the city into rural areas. Mandurah itself used to be a little coastal town popular with retirees, now it has expanded and built itself up. Not spoiled yet at least, but not what it was. The relatively recent new train tracks have brought heaps more tourism, I think. I'm not sure of driving time there any more, but think it is upwards of an hour, whereas the train can do it in about 45 minutes.

Hopefully I haven't given you my lurgy, guys. You'll be home as of this evening, hope you get a chance to relax and settle back.

I've already had my phone call from M, over with my brother and his clan in Port Lincoln, South Australia. Things get frantic tomorrow, I'm given to understand. I also had to again brush off M's concerns about me not doing stuff tomorrow. As I had just coughed like an elephant seal down the phone, she should have realised there was in fact a good reason, but even so. It's been odd; it's almost as though people think I should be depressed about it. Sometimes I do get down about isolation, but I rarely get depressed about Christmas, perhaps because I'm not a believer and haven't been involved in the family gathering/commercial side of it for years.

I've also been very tired and achy from work and glad to get a break. New technology means we move around a lot less, unless we remember on our own; work gets sent straight to computer and if you want to ask a workmate or supervisor something, you send them a chat message rather than visiting their desk. I've felt the bad effects of this already and am trying to make myself get up and do the physical walking. Not that I don't like doing it, just that if one doesn't think, it is so much easier to do it the other way. Also faster, which is ultimately why Head Office instituted the changes, given our transcription office is so obsessed with minutes and words typed.

Ah, that's better. [I have my mug of tea and can assure you, temperature is not too high to drink tea. Clothing optional, however].

The rats are doing well. I'm being fairly generous with the aircon; you can't take chances with a three-year-old rat and none of them do well in the heat. Right now there are rats draped around various points in and on their cages or the couch. Cedric, the senior, has had his soy formula and cold chocolate custard (Rafferty's baby food) straight from the tube, which worked until everyone else smelled it and made a dash for the stairs to come and grab it.

There's been some animal dumping and surrenders in these last few days, the last one only today, where someone had dumped a group of adult and infant rabbits. They're ok now; they're in the care of one of the rat people, with advice from someone else in the group who does rabbit rescues. Plus this, I know of at least one major rat rescue hard on Christmas and I've taken in two boy rats myself whose people had no time for them. And were going on holiday. Some people suck, is all.

I think that'll do it. Be excellent to one another and I'll no doubt be back waffling some more very soon.

Greetings. I don't really have much more to add but I thought you might like to know someone is still reading, although sadly not as thoroughly as I once did. Fingers crossed your aircon and power supply are up to the task of this week's charming forecast.

Yours too (re power + aircon) So far, so good....if there is a blackout, I'll have to dunk the rats, which may not please them and for me, the frog pond will start to look good!
