1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
Rode an electric bicycle. Helped to fix a broken toilet. Learned to play Ticket To Ride online.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Didn't make any.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
An LJ friend who swears this is the *last* one. He's her fourth.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes. Vale Mikey.
5. What countries did you visit?
Only within Australia. [Canberra]
6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
More social life. I'd say get a book published but I have to finish writing it first.
7. What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I can't remember the precise dates, but probably the floods in the Eastern States.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I can't think of one.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being able to think of any achievements.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Only a mild bout of flu.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
ASUS tablet computer.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My fellow pet rat slaves who rescued so many animals from mistreatment.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Both sides of the Australian Federal Parliament these last few weeks; abusing one another like nasty children.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Power bills (dramatically increased by utilities) and food. Got to quit this eating habit.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Trip to Canberra; including an sf convention, the War Museum and their annual flower show, Floriade.
16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
I'm not really music-conscious and my brain hasn't delivered anything up yet after several minutes of thought. Maybe some other LJ friends can suggest something?
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? I think more miserable, because the depressive situation has gone on for longer. I am working to get it under control.
b) thinner or fatter? I think I've put on some weight; sigh. Had to move up a shirt size.
c) richer or poorer? I think about the same.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Visit friends. Write fiction.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Be alone and mope about it.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I'm not sure. My mother is going over east to visit my brother and his family and though I've had a roundabout invitation (brother asked mother, not me, whether I'd go) I do not think it would be a good plan. I may be on my own or may be able to visit friends; unsure.
22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
No.
23. How many one-night stands?
None. I don't do that.
24. What was your favourite TV program?
The Walking Dead
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No. Some I dislike but that's not as dangerous as hate.

The Rivers of London Ben Aaronovich
28. What did you want and get?

To go to the USA for Chicon and to visit friends.

I don't have one. It hasn't been a very inspiring year for cinema and The Hobbit isn't out until Boxing Day.

I was sick in bed (see above flu) and I was 49.

To have done more publishable writing work.

None of them.

Whether or not a supertrawler would be allowed to dock in an Australian port and fish in our waters. After much screaming, it was denied permission!

Two of my best friends, who have taken off down south for a long service leave holiday of kayaking and exploration.

I've met some good new correspondents on LJ, such as the person who filled out this meme and several others.

You have to be yourself even if other people disapprove or think you're crazy. If you don't, you will never be happy.
