The plague coming home to bite
Apr. 20th, 2022 04:53 pmNo, no, I haven't caught COVID. This is metaphorical.
There's more on the bike saga. At long last I've seen an image from the CCTV footage of the bastard who stole my bike. The cops have it too so now we see if there's any benefit. The thief picked his moment well and wore a cap and mask, so visibility is not wonderful. Still recognisable if the cops know him; I don't. The fact that the thief was able to use an angle-grinder to cut the cable lock - which I thought was unlikely in a public area right next to Adelaide Terrace, one of the biggest and most central roads in Perth city - means that parking rack is now right out. Cursed. Verboten. Haven't seen any bike at all there for awhile so I think word has spread.
I'm headed for some financial hardship because of the rent hike, so do not at all need the expense of buying new transport. I have been able to do a deal with my Internet provider when I gave them a brief version of my financial woes (mentioning my long term customer status in passing) and asked whether they could give me a better deal. I've been with them for almost 22 years. You could have knocked me over when they did actually do that. They're not stupid; the deal was about the same as the cheapest deal I'd have gotten from another provider, but still, quite appreciated. [I didn't actually want to shift]. Even worth the trauma of two personal phone calls.
I'm thinking the emptying of the city thanks to the plague is what made the bike theft possible. Usually there are many people passing at all times of the day - this was just before 4 pm, maybe half an hour before people who began shifts early would have started to leave the building - but with COVID, even with eased restrictions, there are still far fewer than usual, both workers and people moving through the city.
