watching how doves get made

The morons in the Federal Government are having a stoush with FB over paying for content.  FB rather than caving in has taken its links and gone home, so no one in Australia can see political content.  I thought it was unusually peaceful today.

I went to town as planned;  way too much circling of stores to obtain one short sleeved shirt.  I can’t believe there are people who do this for fun.  Too late in the season, so although it’s still warm, the stores are bringing out winter stock.  Sigh.  I always do this.  I tried to have lunch at Nandos chicken restaurant but they were too busy, and they don’t tell you there’s a half hour wait until after you’ve lined up.  So settled for coffee and pie at the usual place.  Did get a book on my mental list from the library so not a wasted trip, but so much….stuff.  Town less busy than usual but not in Nandos, apparently.

Yesterday I got to see [David Attenborough voice] the entire magnificent mating ceremony of the spotted dove through my living room window.  Two of them live at my place pretty much all the time, so that when I was counting birds for the week in the year when you do that, mostly they were all I saw.  They got very excited for two seconds and faced each other and then the bigger one fed the smaller one.  I thought I was seeing a chick getting fed for a moment but no.  The female then assumed the position, the male bird jumped on board and maybe three seconds after that, the breathless romance was all over and they were ignoring each other again.  So I can only conclude that male doves sometimes have to pay for it.

These exciting stories give you an idea of what life is like around here ATM.  Not too much going on but at least the masks have gone.  I’ve discovered that I can tolerate pretty much any of the restrictions better than I can the masks, because they do interfere with my vision and in the hot weather they just totally suck.
