Does the rat survive?

 If anyone has watched the German series 8 Days [about a meteor about to smack into Germany (and Europe) and wipe them out]  can you let me know if the rat makes it?

There's this family trying in their various ways to escape doom and one of the kids has brought his pet rat "because he's part of the family too!" which of course he is, but now I'm watching this rat being brought along on a goods train in a bum-bag, hoping he's not about to become a lesson of how some monster works.  It's so rare to have a rat actor.  I'm up to episode 3 and so far everyone's intact, including the rodent. [Also wincing when I think of what the kid's bag would really look like on the inside by now!]
