WORKMATE: You know, methylamphetamine makes you work faster.

ME: Oh Ghod, don't let management hear about that.

WORKMATE: They do that in North Korea. Workers on important government projects are given meth so they work faster.

I'm trying to write more upbeat things, but I think that story is just odd. We're a transcription company and all of us have been security checked, in case anyone was wondering. I had just been venting about recent stupid treatment from the allocations branch.

We have one person at work now who understood my "Family don't end with blood" T-shirt when I wore it the other Friday, so I am pleased about that. We can now have conversations of the geek variety, in the spare few minutes available, that is, so I hope she doesn't scream and run. I recommended The West Wing and she recommended Jessica Jones so I watched the first ep of that and ended up gibbering. Not what I had expected of something from Marvel. Good gibbering, btw - I get very tired of spandex-wearing superheroes - but it got to me, with one of the scariest villains I've ever encountered on screen.

I'm being a bit hampered in my West Wing watching of late because Netflix is being really aggressive in hunting down VPNs. Express VPN somewhat apologetically admitted that Netflix had jammed their entire network the other week and they were not able to recommend a usable location. It happened again last night and this time their help person had an official statement ready, so I think it has been happening a bit. Their engineers are busy trying to create a better mouse, ahead of Netflix's better mousetrap. This tactic will probably work in the end, I fear; at least it's causing me enough trouble that I may not renew my access with the VPN.

Supernatural is available anyway with Netflix Australia, but The Walking Dead and The West Wing are not. Still, I know someone who has TWW and I haven't seen TWD this season at all (season 6 isn't up yet), so I guess I can live without that.

I heard somewhere that this is Perth's coldest winter for 30 [EDIT - actually only 20, I didn't hear correctly the first time] years, with a steady run of maximums around 15/16 degrees or thereabouts, so if we seem to be bitching more than usual about the weather, that's why. We are also having an 'average' rainfall for the first time in several years, at least, I think it has reached that. Checking back, the rainfall here has been below average for the past five years. 2011 was a wet one. I don't think the previous years were, at least I seem to remember 2008/9 breaking drought records. So people think this winter is unusually wet, but it actually is not, which is worrying of itself. Mundaring Weir is only at 14.5% capacity, though the dams further south are all doing much better than that. And all that is what you get if you read Bureau of Meteorology stats for fun.
