Summergeddon Sunday
Feb. 7th, 2016 04:09 pmPoss, I stole your word. Hope that's okay :-) It's now 39^C here in Perth and apparently is going to range from that to the low 40s for the next five days. When this happens, I close up the living room/kitchen area of my house, which has the aircon, and basically don't move unless I have to.
This area now contains all the computer stuff and my supplies. Also in the protected zone are the more delicate houseplants and my two rats, Barnaby and Dario, who can't take high temperatures the way Perth does them. It always surprises folk to hear that Norway rats don't tolerate heat well, but there's a reason why they didn't colonise Australia the way they did Europe, though they do exist here where there's water. The skitterings you hear and the beasties you may see now and then are usually rattus rattus, the more heat-tolerant roof rats.
I still get quite fuzzy even with the aircon's help, but I did manage to finish a story today of about 8000 words, which will sit for awhile. Now I must somehow begin another.
Next week there's two days where I'll have to travel to work and back, before and after the heat peaks (I sincerely hope!). Then Wednesday where I won't have to go anywhere and Thursday, which is still aiming for 39^C as I write, when I have to attend a medical appointment at 1.30pm. Won't that be delightful? And the entire city will bitch and moan about the heat as though we never met it before.
