Finland, Finland, Finland!
Aug. 22nd, 2015 08:30 pmSaturday night. I'm mostly doing okay without the television; just watched some news online. Movies a bit more difficult online, unless I sign up for Netflix, which I'm considering. They're about the only thing the TV is good for, when they actually show something I want to see at a suitable time, but all the ads are unbearable.
I'm spending more time online as a result, but at least there I've got more control over what I see. For example, two hours after it was posted, I read a tweet that Helsinki have the Worldcon in 2017 :-) It was actually in Finnish, but enough words in English to get the point, and then I did some more checking to be sure. Very pleased. I'm not totally sure whether I'll be able to afford it, since I have a hospital admission this year and also expect to be dealing with higher rent, but I will if I can.
The flights to Finland are no more horrific than the ones to the USA, though note to self: Stay overnight in Sydney. It may only be a four hour flight there, but there's being awake all the hours before that, and surviving a usually lengthy stopover in the airport. Of course, direct flights may be possible, I haven't properly researched them yet.
