It lives!

I'm heading off to WABA in about an hour. Made myself go by arranging a game ahead of time and doing the housework earlier in the week to remove that pitiful excuse. Out of bed and dressed, rats fed, scrabble moves made (I'm still behind) and packed a lunch to avoid the temptation of the local cafe. It's not that much of a temptation, to be honest, but it's still *there*.

I'm still somewhat achy from yesterday. On Fridays I ride Rocket the e-bike to work, but this time I seemingly hadn't charged him up enough. There were also strong winds pushing against us and I noticed very few pushbikes around us. Good reason! We ran out of juice somewhere around Mt Lawley and I had to push what felt like a loaded wheelbarrow the rest of the way. As I shoved Rocket up the quite steep hill leading to Royal Perth Hospital, a passerby made the disparaging comment that "those battery bikes can't climb hills" but due to lack of puff I couldn't really defend Rocket's honour.

One of my workmates had the misfortune of sharing the lift with us before I had the chance to take a shower :-) Rode home again at the end of the day, a much easier ride, so I'm hoping riding again today will be a Good Thing and not cause me to permanently seize up. Rocket generally is excellent value. Some time ago I told my friend Lee, who rides a Harley, that Rocket wanted to be a Harley when he grew up. Lee, soothingly, "Of course it does!"

Information about what the trains are doing is useful if you read it. Somehow it slipped by me that the Fremantle trains were not running today and I had taken Rocket with me on the Midland train. Rocket got knocked cock-eyed by a departing wheelchair in the lift we had shared - I had to straddle the front wheel and sort of wrench the bike back into a straight line which must've looked interesting - and then the road destruction all along Wellington Street slowed me down so much that I decided riding Rocket to Claremont was not going to happen. The lift down to Wellington St was also out of order which meant I had to take Rocket down the stairs. Rocket weighs a lot more than a pushbike and this should have been my second clue that things would not go my way today.

Seriously, it looks like the road has been wrenched apart and footpaths blocked, with narrow pathways punched through the rubble here and there. I had no idea where the bike path met the train station and due to all the building/demolition, I couldn't see a damn thing. So sorry gamers, I had meant to show up with Marrying Mr Darcy but will have to bring the game next month or perhaps to the Tuesday night at Myriade where I won't be subject to the vagaries of Transperth.
