Today I went to the city to see if I could find a rare and endangered replacement cartridge for my elderly printer and also to have a word with my bank about a less-than-communicative business with whom I'd had dealings. OfficeWorks had the first (much to their own surprise.
There was much hiking about while I discovered a whole string of businesses I had never seen and that one of the bank's two known hangouts was now closed. Figures. The city is mostly dug up along that road (Wellington St) and the ex bus station is now huge piles of sand surrounded by a fence.
Once at the last surviving bank hangout, I explained that due to changed circumstances I had decided to cancel my contract with this business, but that they had not responded to any emails in the past two weeks and I was worried that they would snag $ out of my account anyway. "Is this a gym?" asked the bank person. "They're evil!"
So it appears. Jetts Gyms, when I checked online, are apparently known for not talking to you once they have your $ and/or your card details. My best bet, which I'd already worked out, was to get a new Visa card so I'm doing that and also passing on the warning. They had a seducingly-low weekly rate, no joining fee (for a time) and were opening in my local shopping centre. Unfortunately for me, the upheaval with my house and landlords came along that same weekend and I had to decide not to continue with the gym.
Beware.
