RIP Albert and Joey
Dec. 27th, 2013 12:54 pmMy beloved rat Albert died today shortly after noon. He'd seemed fine, if a bit wheezy, yesterday but I found him collapsed in his cage this morning and rushed him to the vet. She gave him a shot of antibiotic but it was too late.
Albert was only 20 months, so mature but not elderly, and this comes as a shock. He is survived by his brother Henry, last of the Bunbury Boys, and his other cagemates, Gil, Joey [see below], Benny and Nigel. Albert was one of the notorious bogan "Bunbury Boys," rescued from a petshop that was going to put him and his brothers down for biting. They never bit.
Edited to add the sad news that Joey has also passed, some six hours after Albert. Joey has always been a sickly rat and his passing was not a surprise. He was taken into care about eight months ago with his two brothers and his nephew (?) having been left outside in storm weather and was always a cheerful and friendly little soul, despite the constant wheezing. All the medications the vets and i could think of were tried. Joey was about 23 months old.
