After the Lonestar Worldcon 2013
Sep. 15th, 2013 03:41 pmIf I wait for my brain to settle into perfect organisation, possibly nothing will happen at all. I am, however, sinking into the despondency of having to return to work, so will post in more detail when I'm past this.
I went on long service leave on the 24th of last month and headed off to San Antonio, Texas, on the 27th. On 2 September, the last day of the Lonestar Worldcon, I moved on to Denver, Colorado. Two days later, headed off with friends for the Road Trip to Santa Fe and Taos in New Mexico. We were away for four days and returned to Denver and hot weather, but only briefly. Rain began the next day and as folk may have noticed, Colorado has been blessed with a year's rainfall in a day! I think that was the day after I left. It wasn't me.
I wanted to post some pictures here but it looks like I can't do that as this isn't a paid account. If that's wrong, I'd appreciate some hints. So the pictures will go to Facebook.
I enjoyed the Worldcon and learned a lot about Texas history as well as sf subjects, though it was a bit lonely as I didn't know anyone well and didn't get to go out to dinner with any folks. I did chat to people, mostly in the dealers room and in the fan lounge and the bid parties. I have the feeling this may be the last Worldcon I go to. Won't be able to afford London next year and have no particular interest in Spokane in '15. I would have liked Helsinki to win, but that proved too difficult, with the Worldcon already being held outside the USA the year before.
