thunderstorm this morning
Feb. 21st, 2013 09:26 amRain fell in Perth last night! Yes, this is news. Not very much, but it'll still help the plants that have managed to survive this far. Even native plants are struggling.
Aircon will be on for the rats again - we've another high 30s day coming - though I'll be at work for my short day. I used to do three days as a set thing, sometimes four if needed, but now the fourth day is set too. Five hours instead of seven-plus. Looking at my expenses, I have to say a major reason is the huge increase in power bills. Supervisor comments this is the first change in my arrangement in six years: Well, six years ago, 16 units of power use during the two months cost $195 instead of around $280. Probably a fair bit less, as the bill I'm looking at is this time of year, 2010. In a word; ouch.
Still, if I had to wear a fur suit in this weather, I'd want some temperature control around me as well. Last night, however, Coconut even had the energy to run in the wheel so hard I came out to discover what the godawful noise was. [She'd shifted the whole thing across the cage]. The six boys who are her fanclub were spread out in puddles of fur, as were their neighbours, the three Bunbury Boys. Even in the aircon, life is hard when you're a pet rat. Cue the violins.
Politics continues annoying in this neck of the woods. State election in March, then Federal later in the year, so it feels like we're getting a double dose. Each side bent on persuading the people it has the best and most efficiently costed rail plan. Being cynical, I believe whichever one is implemented, it will end up with a blowout. I'm seriously uneasy about the incumbent and don't have enough information about the challenger party in this respect. [Nitpickers; do not have a go at my political ideas. This is my blog and right now I don't need to read how wrong I am. My mother does a better job than anyone else could ever hope to achieve.]
Meanwhile, I cram myself aboard another morning train, though at least today, peak hour is over when I head in. I'm not dumb all the time. :-)
