Day 5: Mental Health Time Off
Aug. 5th, 2012 01:57 pmNormal Sunday, really, since I have to go to work tomorrow. I feel okay. I've done more bike riding than I have writing but I needed a break from computers, be they work computers or my own.
Phoned M who turns out to have a bad cold but did not require a visit. Same as me, if I'm sick I prefer not to have people come over and take a look. Parents can really make you feel like slime for complaining about them, even if they don't know you've complained. It's a special gift.
I then rode Thorn the mountain bike along the cycleway from Bassendean to almost the same point I rode the e-bike, Rocket, yesterday. Instead of doing just over 10 kilometres, it was probably about eight. I haven't checked yet. I passed Bayswater station and could see Meltham in the distance but stopped short of the long incline that leads down to it, remembering I was going to have to ride up that again. One heats up faster than on the powered bike and is definitely doing more work. I stopped for 3 minutes on the way out and 5 on the way back, when I bought some Gatorade. I also passed the Gatorade test. If you haven't been doing the work, the stuff tastes foul, but if you have, it's fine.
It's not a warm day, but riding a bike, you're down to t-shirt pretty quickly, which feels good. I conclude I can't yet ride Thorn to work, since I'll be swimming in sweat even if I manage to do it faster than an hour and a bit one way. Hopefully I can use the work building's solitary shower, but I know several other people who ride in and we probably start work at roughly the same time, so.
Now returning to usual sloth for the rest of the day. I'm hoping the endomorphin high lasts until after I'm at the gulag on Monday!
