Time to start writing con reports, now that I've had enough sleep. I admit I'm rather missing being able to just find people to talk to - and the mugs of tea in bed were awesome, [profile] sue_burstynski! One of the excellent things about having a room-mate who gets up before you do :-)

My pre-con prep was more detailed than usual. I'd offered to help my room-mate get here by making sure there were the proper Passover food supplies available. I found the trip out to Menora (suburb) and the specialist shop tucked behind the synagogue very interesting. Everyone was very helpful in giving directions and in the shop itself.

Thursday I was meeting room-mate at the airport, so packed up my stuff and the food I was bringing in, thinking easiest to go straight on to the hotel. I did realise I would not be able to pass any checkpoints, but didn't remember that the drug dogs patrol around the luggage retrieval points as well :-) Sue B had only just got there and we were waiting for her case when this cute little beagle trotted up and sat down in front of my case! Fortunately, my explanation was accepted right away and the dog rewarded, once I'd assured his handler he was correct, there WAS fruit in there!

So I was quite tired at the beginning of the con but this, of course, was *nothing*! We got into our room straight away and the Hyatt staff were very efficient. I do like the occasional experience of living way beyond my means and this was a very good room, with a fantastic river view.

Some time earlier, I had realised that in my efforts to remember everything, I had left the packets of matzoh at home, so once we were settled, I headed off on a retrieval mission. It wasn't entirely wasted, because we realised we'd need actual mugs instead of those ditzy little cups and that it would be much better if I was to hardboil the eggs rather than trying to softboil them in the room. I also got one last cuddle with Fred, my youngest rat, the only one actually awake at the time.

The opening ceremony was OK until the supposed comedian did his one-man monologue, a sort of mash of Monkey Magic and Star Wars, with very accurate voices and sounds. However, it didn't hang together and went on for far too long, leaving me wondering why it was happening at all. Introductions and welcome, "Have a good time!" is really all you need at an opening.

The only con item I got to that day was the panel Paranormal Romance, which was being held at the awful time of 10.30 that night! Pretty rough on a person who had travelled interstate that day, IMO, but if Sue B could get there, I surely had no excuse! I will have to leave it to others to give details of the panel since I was too tired to make notes, but it was a lot of fun. I still don't approve of sparkly vampires.
