This message is coming to you from WA, possibly the only Australian State to be happy about wet stuff falling from the sky right now!
I woke up this morning practically swimming, air so thick it was hard to breathe. Then the thunder broke overhead. Now I can read the numbers, I see that the humidity was over 90% so swimming was about right. Felt like I was back in Malaysia, where I lived until I was nearly seven. The lawn and all the plants which normally don't get any water from the hose have now had a soak and the temperature is still below 30^C after 10 o'clock.
January traditionally has a little rainfall and I believe we've now had all of it at once :-) It's still overcast so hopefully there will be more. I am so glad this happened because last night was so humid, it was quite hard to take. It's not terrific right now at 86%, mind you. I also had to get up somewhere in the darkness to break up a rat fight. No doubt they weren't comfortable either; their lovely air-conditioner does not run 24/7 no matter what they'd like, but there is also a power struggle brewing between Oliver, Alpha Rat and Elliott, up-and-coming wannabee. Youth is on Elliott's side and to be honest, Oliver has beaten up so many other rats that he's got it coming. It still felt odd to be soothing Oliver and pushing Elliott to go away and calm down!
With this cooler weather, I'll be able to take care of some gardening and other outside jobs. It's seemed that all I've done for this holiday is yak on computer and read a bunch of pretty good new books, plus play Call of Cthulhu on New Year's Day. Not that there's anything wrong with any of that!
