Holiday Update from Chez Rattus
Dec. 27th, 2010 11:55 amI spent this morning visiting Bunnings with a friend, mainly to get a large amount of shadecloth with which to save my seedlings. I've decided it's not viable to try to keep the big vegetable patch going; with only a hand-hose and this heat. Judging by last year, it's not going to work. Also water must be conserved. So a small selection of vegetables are in the most sheltered area, which now is more sheltered with the 70% shadecloth over the corn, snow peas, dwarf beans, tomato and corn seedlings.
We got going at 8am because of the heat. The temperature in Perth was already almost 30^C then and is now 36^C at 11.30, headed for 40^C. Being the sort of person I am, I speculated that the eerily empty roads and suburbia in general - it being a public holiday today and tomorrow - were just how they'd look at the advent of the zombie apocalypse. I then described the filming of 28 Days Later. Fortunately my friend is used to me.
