In My Opinion
Aug. 12th, 2010 11:53 amI'm officially cheesed off with all politics and have been inspired by
girliejones to make this post, after her post of this morning. I'm with you on all those points.
No more nanny state!
I am sick of politicians who carry on about "working families" as though the only people in the country who matter are those who live in a group of one man, one woman and two point five children, or whatever the current average is. I am not "a working family." I am a person who nevertheless pays tax, utilises services and tries to make my life better as well as helping out where I can.
I am not a Christian, yet I have to hear these same politicians hammer Christianity as though it is impossible to be a good person without espousing this creed.
I don't think Julia Gillard is wonderful just because she's a woman. She's a politician! Nevertheless, some of the attacks on her for not being married or having children feel like they're aimed straight at me. These folks making the attacks appear to believe that not having or wanting children means a woman is somehow morally deficient.
None of the parties will do what is necessary to stop the human impact on climate change. They can't. What is required is too extreme; only a world dictatorship could do it - and such a government would not. I believe our impact can be lessened, however, and it's certain that doing nothing except talk achieves only more talk.
There. That's let off a bit of steam.
