The gulag looms

It's almost the end of my break. Yes, it's been a restful time but also a no pay time, that being the way the gulag operates. I did as much extra work as I could leading up to Christmas, so that helped, though I wasn't counting on the modem croaking and rats needing to go to the vet several times. I should have, considering this time of year is when these troubles usually arise, but in some things I am a hopeless optimist.

That kind of night

It's still 27^C here in Perth, at a quarter to midnight. No wonder several of us are still awake.
