The Long Weekend That Wasn't
Jun. 3rd, 2009 05:44 pmI didn't have a long weekend but that was ok. The gulag was desperate enough to ask for volunteers to work the Foundation Day Monday, for double pay, which must have really hurt. :-) I can't remember the last time they did that; in fact, I think I've only gotten it once, for recording Industrial Relations Commission on a Sunday. That was the nurses' dispute back in the '90s.
The universe tried to stop me getting there by causing the level 3 doors of Royal Perth Hospital to jam shut. It's a shortcut to work to go via the McIver train station, up to the RPH overpass and through the third level, out the other side. Well, it usually is. Patients desperate to get out for a smoke were milling around while an unfortunate individual in front reception desperately tried to make maintenance understand that there was a Problem! When the doors finally did open, I shot through like a rabbit before the person waiting to let me in at work gave up and went away again.
So I did five hours at double rates, which will probably have to make up for next Monday, when the East goes on holiday and doesn't send us any of their recordings to transcribe.
( reading and gardening notes )
