rattfan: (Frog World!)
For the first time, I've seen a frog in my pond! I've heard them - the Motorbike Frog's call is unmistakable - but this is the first time I've seen one. It's a very small frog, probably the eldest of the six introduced tadpoles, who swam around like a little underwater blimp, rather majestic when you have only skittering minnows to compare with it. The MBF was sitting on a rock, resembling a dead leaf, but jumped into the water with great energy when I tried to get a better look.

The pond critters are quite active at the moment. I guess the heatwave is warming the pond, though I top it up regularly. Speaking of being active, I'm ashamed to admit that an hour's walking around the garden watering and a 23-minute walk to fetch the newspaper and milk this morning is a good lot of exercise for me, at least while it's hot. When I'm travelling to work, I get 30-40 minutes walking without looking for it and that's not counting regular hikes up and down the office, since I sit at one end and it's necessary for me to visit the other end at least a dozen times a day! Once I measured a kilometre of exercise within the office on one day alone. Of course, I spend the rest of the time on my bum in front of a computer so I'm not sure that's actually better than the exercise I get on holidays.

Yes, I've adopted that most popular of resolutions. Get More Exercise, followed by Eat Less Junk and Fit Into The Black Woollen Pants Next Winter. [livejournal.com profile] agoodliedown, you will be proud to hear that I have made the shift to Diet Coke. I'm still not crazy about it but you've certainly proved to me that cutting down the sugar that way should help! Congratulations on your own efforts!

I've also bowed to the inevitable and shifted the computer into the living room Aircon Zone. I just wasn't getting anything done and the computer was objecting to the heat even late at night. It's rather distracting with thirteen sets of beady rodent eyes (eleven rats, two mice) watching me, at least while they're awake. I think the whole lot are asleep right now, midafternoon, which has a terribly soporific effect! Job's Boys, otherwise known as the Dutch Rats since Job is Dutch, should go home this weekend and the Rodent Sleepover Club (Don and Lena's mob) probably this weekend also or when Don installs their new air-conditioner.

BTW, Kim Harrison fans watch out. Where Demons Dare (UK imprint) and The Outlaw Demon Wails (USA imprint) are the same book. I haven't been caught out that way in years but was able to exchange the book when I realised I had duplicated it!
