rattfan: (Frog World!)
New Year's Eve, a hot one, though cooler than last night. I spent some of the afternoon wading in my frog pond - carefully! - to remove green slime and clip dead fronds of water plants. I was also pleased to see a couple of the tadpoles breach a few times.

Concern (appreciated because I might not have known) has been expressed that my fish may have been responsible for the non-success of the last batch, so the management wishes to assure all that White Cloud Mountain Minnows, though not natives, are on the approved list in Building Frog Friendly Gardens, which is published by the Western Australian Museum. I believe I had a couple of gambusia for awhile, though gods only know how because my pond is isolated. They can only have come in somehow when I bought the water plants. I haven't seen the gambusia since the early days of the pond so I believe something ate them or I was lucky and they weren't a male and female!

By all this, I'm sure it'll be plain that the Rat is not partying tonight! I was thinking, ten years ago or whatever, I was in the loop for hearing about parties. Now, not. Those who gave the parties that long ago have decided the quiet life is preferrable. [Ye gods, as I write, I hear the booming from the nearby stadium which IS partying tonight, much to the ire of anyone who has to live near it!] Even so, I'm a bit nostalgic for a few of those fannish parties and wish I wasn't quite so far out of the loop.

Have a good one, whether or not you're out partying.
