Nano notes - 4198 words, two days
Nov. 2nd, 2008 09:22 pmI've managed to write 4198 words of my Nano novel so far. I need to get slightly ahead because it's unlikely I'll break any records on work days, like tomorrow. It's going well, tentatively; already more writing than I've done in considerable weeks so let's hope it's not total crap. I've done a couple of teeny edits along the way but not much, honest. Maybe later I'll think about showing you some, if any of my flist want to see.
The NaNoWriMo site appeared to be down today, which doesn't surprise me a terrible lot. I can wait to update my official count until things are a little less frenetic. [Belatedly accessed site but it's still slo-ow].
I've also done a lot of gardening this weekend. The work felt cathartic; after losing Luka, I wanted to go and do something. I also had the chance to get compost, stakes and seedlings, meaning a friend with a car willing to cart it all home! We're going for the sweet corn, which is pretty hard to kill. I'm dedicating that to the town of DeKalb, Illinois with whom Perth is having a Nano word-war. Also cauliflower, rockmelon, garlic chives and runner beans, for whom I constructed a teepee of stakes and a couple of railings with star pickets and more stakes and enough twine to hold the Death Star together. The tomatoes, dwarf beans and potatoes were already in place and what with all the digging and soil tossing, I've located quite a few more potatoes from the last crop. I've forgotten just how popular you become with the six-legged buzzing fraternity when you have compost perfume all over you, which explains the weird dance some of my neighbours may have seen me do from time to time today.
Oh yes. I attempted to explain Nano to my mother and the fact that I was doing this voluntarily. She said, "That's nice, dear." [grit teeth].
