Oct. 22nd, 2006 05:01 pmDomestic animals are not as sharp as their wild counterparts. Generations of protection and not having to get their own food has its inevitable effect. This was brought home to me today when I found a couple of the biggest slugs I had ever seen in my compost heap and handed them over to the Jaws of Death. Later I came inside and found one of the big slugs grimly hauling away across the living room floor, headed for freedom.
Out of a cage containing four rats with very sharp teeth. See the icon of the Yawning Rat to note how sharp :-) Not a mark on said slug.
I set the slug free in an area of the garden where it couldn't do much damage. Not that I'm such a fan of slugs but it deserved freedom. The rats, on the other hand...well, domestication has certainly taken the edge off!
Yes, things are very slow around here today. Gardening, finishing off inside jobs like ironing, looking at text on the screen and having it look back. I think the overcast sky affects my mood. Without a deadline I also find it difficult to apply myself.
