One Small Brown Rat and the World Beyond
I'm in my last week of break. I shouldn't feel this sleep-deprived until *next* week! I've been getting up in the night to hand-feed Wilfred the rat. Somehow this always happens on my holidays, which is good in a way, I suppose.
Btw, I am actually noticing current affairs, such as somebody in Arizona going gun-crazy and eastern Australia being underwater and big retailers getting annoyed that I and others are buying things online. It's just that my focus is extremely narrowed down right now to Wilf and his health problems.
The Arizona thing messes with my head. I thought I'd read something in one of Laurell K. Hamilton's books (before they degenerated into porn) about this gun law, but I'd misremembered. The quote I had in mind was about New Mexico's gun laws, which are apparently the opposite of Arizona's. To quote:
New Mexico lets you carry as long as it's not concealed. Concealed carry without a permit is illegal.
What is this thing with guns? I've seen Michael Moore's film on the subject - is that Stupid White Men? - and I remember hoping he was exaggerating. Don't think so now.

skritches for Wilf ...
I dont think the young man was really all that politically motivated ... but if he was, voting against the health reforms seems to be such reactionary blindness. I know middle class, cash poor Americans who cannot get necessary medical procedures because they have no insurance, or cant pay for it. The fact that their readily-fixable-conditions prevent them from being productive members of society doesnt seem to have any bearing on the politics of health care. What chance have the poor got of being more productive?
