Whose dream is this anyway?

I keep dreaming about vampires. Probably this is because I keep reading about them! I swear, I don't even try to find books about vampires but they keep showing up anyhow.

I'd borrowed Laurell K. Hamilton's Blood Noir from the library, on the logic that while I didn't want to buy any more of hers, I'd give one a go and see if she'd gotten over writing books which are one long sex scene. Well, no. Anita spends most of the book in various hotel rooms, either having sex or having long conversations about sex with various men, some werecritters, some not. I would've liked to know more about how the weretigers homeschool their kids, myself; what on earth would they teach them?

After this, of course I dreamed about vampires, but becoming victim to a sort of vampire serial killer, if that's not a tautology. Not cool vampire hunting stuff. Quite unrelated, there was a scene in a store with some really nice clothes in it, the kind I can never find, but when I asked the woman behind the counter about them, she asked me to come back when she was less busy. Whose dream is this anyway?

I think we managed to catch the serial killer in the end.

In real life, I actually went out this Saturday. Made myself get up and travel over to Mt Claremont to do some boardgaming at the Eurogames club. Saturday mornings, I'm often a bit out of it still from work, so I thank Rob, Leece, Elaine W and others for their patience while I got my brain together. This was helped by the fact that the community centre has a very nice cafe as part of it, which delivers to the gaming room. I think we must have been most of their customers and I wonder what they do on the other three Saturdays? I played a game called Gnostica which I remember because you play it with a Tarot deck plus little coloured triangles. Somehow I won this, despite not really knowing what I was doing. I got justifiably wiped out in the next game, called Citadel, where you have to build a medieval town while everyone else tries to destroy you. The Warlord character habitually destroys pubs because, so other gamers said, he is sick of having to drag his soldiers out of them.

The community centre is indeed in a very pleasant area of town but could use more buses! The most convenient bus ran one an hour. I may try riding from Claremont station some time if (a) the trains are running this time and (b) it's not too cold. I'm kind of wimpy about the cold and actually wore a vest on this day. Don't tell my mother, who has been telling me to wear them since I was in kindergarten.

I left early today because of wanting to do a bit of food shopping on the way home and also because I'm expecting a rescue rat and wasn't sure if the people taking him from his owners would be dropping him off Saturday or not. Turns out they haven't got him yet but he'll be arriving this afternoon. He's eight months old and has recently lost his brother - through a fall, the story goes but that sounds odd to me. A rat, especially a young rat, doesn't hurt themselves when all they do is fall. He also has mites which will need to be treated before I even think of introducing him to the horde. Plan is to get him and Theo the boss rat to play nice; then when his scent and Theo's get mixed up, it should be easier to get the younger ones to accept him. I'm not worried about Jasper who, though he's roughly the same age as the newcomer, is very wimpy and doesn't even scuffle with the three younger rats, whom Theo keeps under control with a paw of iron.

The RSPCA doesn't do much for rats. They generally pass them straight to a known rat-rescuer, which is one or another of my rat-owning friends, to whom I made it known that I had a place for a rat if one was needed, especially someone whom it would be difficult to integrate. Anyway, more about this guy when I get him.

Today I'm having an exciting time doing all the laundry I should've done yesterday. Down to the last pair of socks!

I have three loads of laundry on the line as we speak. Now to put clean sheets on the bed, do the dusting, glass cleaning, bin emptying, floor hoovering and tiled floor washing.

And work out dinner.

Wonder if vampires would be part of the RSPCA umbrella. They ain't human, after all.... Would they have 'adopt a vampire' day?

I'm so grateful you came, it was really good to game with you again. Do remind us to bring the Illuminati for next time you come!

vampire bats, vampire rats.... they're ALMOST the same thing

No, no. A vampire rat is the one you can never get on camera; they don't show up on film because they have anticipated you and dived for cover.
