Last One In Is Kaiser Bill - and Other Games

This year, for financial and other reasons, I did not attend Swancon proper, although I did, as a member of the WA Boardgaming Association, attend the gaming room, with instructions not to "enjoy anything on the way up there" from the concom member who gave me the pass. :-)

I'd had about as little sleep as any congoer the previous night, because of my neighbours deciding to get married in their backyard. At least they like retro music, though I have to say I think "Tainted Love" is a strange song to hear being belted out at a wedding. They wrapped up about 1am and I got to sleep some time thereafter.

Despite this, I managed several hours in the virtual cockpit of a biplane on Sunday, playing Wings of War before heading home to feed the rodent hordes. I also stopped by the dealers room and was unable to prevent two books, Robert Sawyer's Wake and Scott Sigler's Infection from following me home. By a stroke of luck, Scott Sigler was right there in the lobby when I passed through and signed my copy for me.

Okay, there was stuff I'm sorry to have missed, though I think I made the right decision not to attend the actual con this year. The hotel also seemed very crowded, though that may just be me. I was pleased to hear today that the next Swancon will be held at the Hyatt in the CBD, with Ellen Datlow and Sean Williams among the guests of honour. That, though, lies after the chasm of Worldcon.
